Profile Me

Holly Durant

The Sisters Hayes would like to know:

What did you (or do you) want to be when you grow up?
I wanted to be a marine biologist and a lawyer and a broadway musical actress/ dancer.

How many siblings do you have and what is your birth order (oldest, middle child, youngest, only child)?
I am the second of four, two boys and two girls.

Are you doing what you love with your life? Why or Why not?
Yes I am doing what I always wanted (except for the marine biologist and lawyer part). It is definitely hard to follow a dream and you do give up a lot of normal things i.e stability of any kind! But I wouldn’t change a thing. I’ve seen some pretty amazing things and met some rather incredible people.

What is your favourite hobby or past time? Is this something you prefer to do alone or with others and why?
In a way my job is my pastime, it’s a bit consuming… but I do really like to read fashion magazines. Sometimes I worry that it’s a vacuous thing to love so I hide away in my room when I am reading them and pretend for the most part that I’m not interested in fashion at all… but I am.

What is the most embarrassing song on your iPod that you do not want to delete?
Beyoncé – DIVA!

Describe an important place to you. Include things like what season or time of day it is. Also let us know of any important smells or colours you associate with that place.
Monmatre, Paris in the winter just before Christmas. It’s the first place I ever saw snow and it is magical. The streets are lit at night with Christmas markets and you can drink hot mulled wine, and the smell of fresh madeleines from the bakeries in the mornings are almost obscene.

What three things do you ‘feel you need’ to carry with you (other than your phone, wallet or keys)?
My hand written diary and a pen (never Ical), headphones, and a small screw-driver (it tightens sunglasses and tap shoes)

What fictional character do you most identify with and why?
When I was younger it was definitely Pippy Longstocking… Now I think I’m somewhere between Lena Dunham in Girls and Elizabeth Bennet in Pride and Prejudice. Pippy as a red-headed, adventurous outsider and Lena and Liz as rambling, over-thinking, adventurous outsiders.

What book OR movie do you enjoy reading/watching over and over again?
All of the Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers films. Chan Wook Park’s I’m a Cyborg and That’s Ok and Wong Kar Wai’s In the Mood for Love.

Describe something you wear that makes you feel confident, happy or powerful.
I have this silk Zac Posen onesie that I bought in Paris. The fabric is covered in groups of fruits that have faces drawn on them and a large triangle is cut out of the mid section. It’s the funnest thing to wear and everybody looks at you as you go past.
