Profile Me

Gill Hutchison

The Sisters Hayes would like to know:

What did you (or do you) want to be when you grow up?
A bus driver because you got to travel and meet people – I was in year 1 when I had this plan.

How many siblings do you have and what is your birth order (oldest, middle child, youngest, only child)?
I have 2 brothers and 2 sisters. I’m the youngest and my nearest sibling is 8 years older than me.

Are you doing what you love with your life? Why or Why not?
Yep, pretty much, although work/life balance is a bit of a struggle sometimes. I am a lady with a plan though.

What is your favourite hobby or past time? Is this something you prefer to do alone or with others and why?
Surfing. I have been surfing with friends for the past two years because I was a little spooked by the ocean and didn’t feel my ability was good enough to take on Poseidon. But the past few months I’ve decided to see what it’s like surfing alone and it’s absolutely delightful. Legs dangling in the ocean, zoning out looking at the horizon, hi-fiving myself after a good wave. Nothing beats it.

What is the most embarrassing song on your iPod that you do not want to delete?
Hold On – Wilson Phillips. It has its time and place.

Describe an important place to you. Include things like what season or time of day it is. Also let us know of any important smells or colours you associate with that place.
The beach shack I just bought in Anglesea. Every time I open the front door on the weekend I get a waft of beach shack smell – mustiness that is soon gone and sand always on the floorboards no matter how much I sweep. The bright yellow acapulco chairs catch the afternoon sunlight and glow.

What three things do you ‘feel you need’ to carry with you (other than your phone, wallet or keys)?
My paper diary, my book for ideas about my surf blog, my book for ideas about dreams for decorating/renovating my house.

What fictional character do you most identify with and why?
Elizabeth Bennett from ’Pride & Prejudice’. My pride does get in the way of things, ie, men, sometimes.

What book OR movie do you enjoy reading/watching over and over again?
Pride and Prejudice – both book and BBC series.

Describe something you wear that makes you feel confident, happy or powerful.
My wetsuit! As soon as I zip it up I know good times are ahead.
